BrakeMonster
uYi! Welcome to the painting!

BrakeMonster means; Stop! Then let imagination create. A product of his industrial surroundings, BrakeMonster loves his Toronto stomping grounds and is a breath of fresh air coming out of the smog. People observing him in his habitat could identify him as a wrapper, but he doesn’t fit the typical hip-hop package. BrakeMonster has the charm of Lovefoxxx from CSS, tells bedtime stories like Slick Rick, while maintaining a bigger smile than Chris Rock. Just picture Carlton Banks dancing along to a Fresh Prince painting pictures with the colors like the clothes he wears.

Just recently BrakeMonster’s single ‘Salad’ was released as an EP with Intellegenix along with four remixes. It will be followed by his Full Length album “This is for me, This is for you, This is for us”, in June. This material was recorded during the summer of 2009 and was heavily influenced by the art galleries and over-priced eateries of Queen St West. Davey James was the producer who helped create the project. He worked for the likes of Rick Rubin and with Bob Egan from Blue Rodeo, so you can hear the early Def Jam vibe as well as the nuances of steel guitars. BrakeMonster pulls his lyrics from a wide array of his life experiences. This includes his destructive love affair with certain narcotics, an apathetic view towards politics from the generation Y crowd, overcoming obstacles and now embracing life to the fullest. The album features artists like Father Damien from Fucked Up, Tosha from Candy Coated Killahz, Curtis Santiago, Josh McGuirk from Styrophome Ones, Times Neue Roman and Miss Gold. When they capped a session, BrakeMonster walked to the corner and went to perform on Queen or College West, or drive to London or Montreal.

As a performer he has commanding stage presence and his magnetic personality ensured he was always in high demand. BrakeMonster has now been performing for over10 years starting out in venues with 10 people and retired when it was around 1000 people in some of the most prestigious venues in the world. He worked in performed in super clubs like CiRCA and Guvernment and venues like the Bonaventure hotel in Los Angeles. BrakeMonster wanted to turn his visions into destiny but he needed time to reflect, so he retreated into his imaginations cocoon. What he found after hibernation was the key to bloom and take off into a butterfly with wings. He started waking up at quarter to five instead of going to bed then. Taking breaks were now in the past, which is the reason for Brake being past tense, and the Monster represents his new invigorated imagination. Now you can hear BrakeMonster serenading you into your dreams with a nice lullaby but he also has the range to sound like a demon from the depths of hell. This ability to take it to the next level and beyond is why he will always be the unmistakably irresistible BrakeMonster.
